According to the 2020 Mexico Population and Housing Census, Mexico has approximately 126 million inhabitants. This places Mexico as the eleventh most populous country in the world. Throughout the 20th century, the Mexican population experienced significant growth, going from 13.6 million in 1940 to 129.5 million inhabitants in 1990, with annual growth rates close to 3%.

Mexico City Population

According to the 2020 Census, Mexico City has approximately 9,209,944 inhabitants. Of this total, 52.2% are female, and 47.8% are male. The median age in the city is 35 years. Mexico City Population ranks second in population at the national level, maintaining the same position as in 2010, although it is surpassed by the State of Mexico.

Of this total, 8,741,123 are female (representing 51.4%), and 8,251,295 are male (representing 48.6%). This places the State of Mexico in the first place nationally in terms of Mexico Population.

Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico Population

The Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM) is a metropolitan area formed by Mexico City, 59 municipalities in the State of Mexico, and one municipality in the State of Hidalgo. According to the 2020 census conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, this area had a population of approximately 22 million inhabitants, which is roughly 1 out of every 5 Mexicans. In fact, based on data from the United Nations in 2012, it is the 7th largest metropolitan area in the world and the second largest in Latin America.
